On April 30, 1998, a number of activists formed a new political party.

Coming from a variety of grassroots organisations that centred on improving the lot of squatters, and plantation and factory workers, the activists who formed Party Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) seemed like throwbacks to the days of the Cold War, freely using Marxist rhetoric in the course of pursuing their struggle for a more just Malaysia.

Mohd Nasir Hashim, newly-elected state assemblyperson for Kota Damansara in Selangor, will have to buy a pair of leather shoes and baju melayu hitam for the upcoming oath-taking ceremony - the customary attire for Malay legislators upon induction.

It will be no swanky place from which Nasir will obtain his outfit.

The opposition parties of Malaysia shook the ground last night. Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kedah and Kelantan were all won by the opposition parties.

Meanwhile, in Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara, the people showed their appreciation for the years of effort made by PSM's community development workers by voting for our candidates. Our candidate in Sungai Siput, Dr. Kumar, defeated Samy Vellu for our first ever Parliament seat while Nasir Hashim won the DUN Kota Damansara seat! Both contested under the Keadilan flag.

Pagi ini lebih kurang pukul 9, jentera pilihanraya Parti Sosialis Malaysia(PSM) di DUN Kota Damansara telah bersedia untuk membuat usaha terakhir dalam saat-saat sebelum hari pengundian menjelang.

Hari ini, rancangan jentera PSM ialah untuk mendalam ke kubu kuat BN di Kampung Melayu Tambahan Subang. Satu pasukan yang terdiri daripada 7 orang dengan semangat juang yang tinggi telah bersedia menghadapi cabaran kental ini.

Kota Damansara - Tanah lapang di hadapan Dewan rakyat Kampung Baru Subang malam ini dibanjiri lebih kurang 200 penduduk yang datang untuk mendengar ceramah daripada calon Parti Sosialis Malaysia(PSM) bagi DUN Kota Damansara, Dr. Nasir Hashim.

Today two comrades from Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), who are campaigning for Dr. Nasir Hashim, socialist candidate for DUN Kota Damansara, exposed misuse of school premise and state logo by MCA, one of the coalition parties in Barisan Nasional. This incident took place in front of MBSA Hall in Pekan Kg. Baru Subang. There was a banner in Chinese clearly showing the state logo together with MCA logo.

Kemarahan peniaga-peniaga dan warga penduduk di Pasar Besar Subang dirasai oleh calon Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) di DUN Kota Damansara Dr. Nasir Hashim yang bertanding dibawah tiket PKR dalam lawatan beliau ke pasar tersebut pagi ini. Dijangkakan 1000 pengundi melawat pasar ini setiap hari.

The playground at Taman Subang Perdana Jln 2/10 today was packed by over 4000 people, gathered to listen to the speeches of the alternative front candidates.
